- Presentation of the group:
- The ensemble name Váh is inspired by the name of the river Váh in basement city of the ensemble – Púchov. The basis of the ensemble is stylistic treatment dances, traditions and habits from Púchov‘s Valley and Middle Váh region. The repertoire of the group is complemented by dancing and music from other regions of Slovakia.
- The group has about 15-20 performances yearly and has more than 30 members these days. Púchov’s folk ensemble Váh is excited to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2021. The ensemble works with support from the municipally funded group, The Culture of Púchov (Púchovská kultúra, s.r.o.) and Civil Association The Púchov’s Folklore Heart (Folklórne srdce Púchov, o.z.).
- Some of Váh’s past achievements include three-time laureate of the International Folklore Festival “WARMIA” (2000, 2001, 2003), in Olsztyn (Poland) and an award at the “ROZTOCZE” festival in Tomaszow Lubelski (Poland, 2009). The ensemble won two awards – for overall scenic impression and musical expression at the 18th International Folklore Festival Velika Gorica (Croatia) in 2018. In 2014, the group was assigned between top eight spot in the National Contest of Creative Choreographies of Folk Ensembles in Liptovský Mikuláš. Váh has also recorded Púchov’s first folklore CD (in 2010) with the help of the local children’s ensemble. The group visited Croatia, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, France, Italy, Austria, Serbia, Russia and of course the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.
- Presentation of dances, costumes, music:
- The basis of the ensemble is stylistic treatment dances (e.g. female´s wedding dance, typical pair dances), traditions and habits from Púchov´s Valley and Middle Váh region. The repertoire of the group is complemented by music from other regions of Slovakia like Zemplín, Orava or others. During our performace we use music on live and wear a lot of slovak folk costumes.
- Total time of performance: 30-60 min.
- The man’s folk costumes comprises: embroidered shirt, embroidered waistcoat, embroidered trousers, high boots or shoes, long belt, hat.
- The woman’s folk costumes comprises: embroidered blouse, pleated skirt, apron, petticoat, high boots or shoes.
- The typical musical instruments: 1st and 2nd violins, contrabass, cymbal, violine.
